Zoo

A few weeks ago we were able to take a fun family trip to the zoo. We spent all day there. It was tiring but a lot of fun. We hadn't been to the zoo for a couple of years- crazy I know.

For some reason I keep getting bugged (not by an individual) to post my talk from last Sunday, well I am not going to do that since it is all a little jumbled but I will post the references that I used for my talk.

This is now a favorite poem (I have some cool ideas for this poem):

Walk A Little Slower
Author: unknown

“Walk a little slower, Daddy”,
Said a little child so small.
“I’m following in your footsteps,
And I don’t want to fall.
Sometimes your steps are very fast,
Sometimes they’re hard to see;
So walk a little slower, Daddy,
For you are leading me.
Someday when I’m all grown up,
You’re what I want to be;
Then I will have a little child
Who’ll want to follow me.
And I would want to lead just right,
And know that I was true;
So, walk a little slower, Daddy,
For I must follow you.”

Just remember; A son wants to become like you, a daughter wants to marry someone just like you-It is a righteous father.

Father's Day at our house was a little crazy. Ryan got biscuit and egg breakfast and Pot roast (cow is what we call it in our house) and potato dinner is about it with a quick Happy Father's day thrown in there. Ryan and I had to give talks in Sacrament (we have 1:00pm Sacrament so we got to worry all morning and afternoon) so we had a busy week and were pretty stressed/nervous on Sunday so the day really didn't seem to be relaxing for Ryan. After church and dinner we got to go visit with Grandpa Carter. Once we got home Ryan called his Dad to wish him a Happy Father's Day and was reminded that it was his parents anniversary- 40 years! Happy (belated) Father's Day to all those that I didn't get to see or talk with on Father's Day (that includes you too Gary)

Evan Graduated!
June 13th was Evan's last day of preschool school and graduation day. They had a fun little ceremony in the backyard of the preschool. They had asked the kids ahead of time what they wanted to be when they grew up. It was fun to hear all of the occupation's from policeman to artist but my little man of course had to say he wanted to play video games when he grows up.

Katie (she says she going to marry Evan), Connor aka: Dude and Evan

Ethan and Evan
Ethan and Evan became good friends. Ethan will be going to Evan's school next year which we are very excited about.

You can't tell but Miles is showing me his gum. He actually chewed it for about an hour and a half. This is remarkable since he usually only chews it for about 2 mins and then swallows it. Isn't this some kind of mile stone, where you're a big boy when you can chew gum without swallowing it?

I am always finding Lucas under the bed now. I have a feeling that is where he will be hiding when he is older.

On June 7th we were able to get together with Ryan's family in Spokane, Chewelah actually. All of the siblings and their families were together, this is a rare occasion and we had a blast. John and Michaeline have 10 acres just less then an hour north of Spokane. We had a good time visiting and trying to get outside whenever the rain stopped. I decided to show Ryan that I am not so vanilla (which he calls me, meaning that I am plain-which I remind him that I am a wife and a mother of 3 and extreme sports are not high on my list) and took him out for a run on the four-wheeler. It took me back to some fun snowmobiling times in Rexburg. It was a quick trip and we wished we had more time to visit with family. (Note: the nasty blue house in the background of some of the pics is not John and Michaeline's)

The long awaited quarter (actually nickel)!

On May 15th Evan came running in the office from his rest time in our bedroom in histaria. "Mom, mom I swalled a quarter (as he is crying), how do we get it out, am I going to die." It took me seriously 5 mins to calm him down just to make sure it wasn't still stuck in his throat and that he was breathing okay. I had him swallow a few times and asked him if it hurt, he said no so I knew that it wasn't stuck where he couldn't breath. I explained that he wasn't going to die and I called the doctor to see if we just sit and wait until it came out on its own. Since it was a quarter (or so we thought since I lined up all coins and had Evan point to which one he swallowed) they wanted me to bring him in to make sure that it wasn't lodged. So after getting the other boys to Mom's we went to get Evan's first (and most likely not last) x-ray. All the ladies at the doc office had a comment for Evan since he was the famous boy that swallowed a quarter (I guess the most exciting thing that happened for them that day). "You know your suppose to put money in your pockets not your mouth," one said. Another said "Are you a piggy bank"? After a few more of these he turned to me with a sad look and said mom I am shy. I said do you mean embarrassed and he shook his head yes. We got the x-ray and Evan got to see his bones and quarter which was in his tummy. We got home and let Ryan know what was going on and also let him know of his new chore since it was his money that he left on his nightstand, yes digging through poop! After searching and searching for a full week we called the doc again to see if it should have passed, to make a long story short we had to go in for another x-ray and the quarter was still in his tummy so the doc said he would make an apt at Children's to get it scoped out. Oh boy! Well it turned out that the doc at Children's said we could wait up to three weeks to see if it passed, so more poop digging for Ryan (he was getting pissed at this point since he had to do it while camping as well). On Tues May 27th Ryan hit the jackpot and found a nickel not a quarter! I put it in a picture frame and hung it on Evan's wall and told him it was a reminder to never put anything in his mouth except food! That was one expensive nickel!

Getting too big for his bouncer, he doesn't want to lay back any more. This is how he sits when he watches his Baby Einstein movies. Poor thing has a cold, look at his puffy eyes.

I haven't had a baby that likes to sleep on their tummy until now. Lucas has chosen this new sleeping position. When you place him on his back he automatically turns onto his tummy. We have even had to take out his blankets since he is turning in his sleep to the other direction (head where his feet started out). Having a tummy sleeper worries me after reading stats on SIDS with my first. I know, I know we all slept on our tummies when we were babies but it still makes me worry (see the tag post below). Even though he is now (at 5 1/2 months) sleeping at most 5 hours straight, I wake up just to check on him. Most mornings I have been feeling more tired than when I went to sleep (this has been the case since he was born- he hasn't been my easiest baby when it comes to sleeping at night). I must admit though he looks so cute and cuddly, I like snuggling up to him and watch him sleep.

5 1/2 months old and we are now hiding under the bed just like big brothers. Lucas is rolling all over to get where he wants to go these days. I changed his bum, went to go wash my hands and came back into the room to find him under the bed.

I now understand why my mom was so stressed out when we would go camping. To get ready it takes the whole week before and many hours on the day you want to leave and then it takes a week + when you get back to clean everything up and put it away. I have had to continually remind myself that it is worth it... the memories, the fun times the boys will never forget. As well as the memorable things Ryan and I won't forget.......

like the Sunday dinner rain storm. We had group meals and certain groups of families were in charge of meals. When It came time for our Sunday dinner it was sunny and beautiful so we thought we would cook up our hot dogs up on an open field. Well living in Washington the weather can turn on a dime. One second you are having fun sitting in the sun watching a kick ball game and the next sitting in a rain puddle with a wet hot dog wondering if it is worth getting up and moving out of the rain or just sit there and eat your wet hot dog. Everyone ran for cover but not before everyone was soaking wet.......

or when Devin Willams was strutting his stuff walking up a hill with a fully furnished hot dog while we were trying to drive up it and in a flash you don't see him because he has fallen or rolled I should say down the hill. Standing up he yelled "I saved the dog" (the hand that was holding the dog was covered in dirt but not a spot on the hot dog). Sorry Devin but Ryan and I almost peed our pants laughing sooooo hard......

or when Ryan accidentally capsized the Ellis canoe (which Ryan feels extremely bad). Evan was very traumatized by this and the fact that he thought Daddy fell into the water too, only Ryan jumped in to help (almost capsizing their boat with more kids in it) get the kids out of the water. It was a good learning experience for him and we taught him about the need for life jackets. Evan is a sensitive little boy and takes incidents very hard, he talks about them for weeks after they happen which I hope Ryan and I are handling it right by talking him through it. We are very greatful that the Ellis' are okay!!!!!

Even though it is hard work to get there and to clean up we had a lot of fun and made memories; although we wished we could have shared this time with many more people that we love. Since that would be a very, very, very large amount of people here are some pictures to share in the memories.

This year we decided to get the yearly membership to the Everett Children's Museum. We are glad we did because we have so much fun with the Young's on our monthly outings!

This last Wednesday Evan's preschool had a Mother's Day Program. It was great. They sang all of the verses of Puff the Magic Dragon, and God Bless America, signed Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and a few other things including a Danish Folk Dance. I can't believe I am going to my little boys Mother's Day Programs. I can't believe I am a mother of three, but then I see myself in the mirror and there is the proof, right along with the straight grey highlighted hair.

This is a pic showing how Lucas is getting around. He pushes him self around like a caterpillar

Tonight was haircuts and ice cream shakes night. Daddy cuts the hair and Mommy makes the shakes. Thick Chocolate Strawberry Shakes...so good. We have had our Vita Mix for about 4 or 5 years and wished we could afford fruit and ice cream to make them more often (I am thinking every night). We need to become a little smarter and buy fruit in season and freeze it. Ryan likes the refreshing fruit kind but I like the thick ice cream shakes.

Lucas is now 4 1/2 months old and is already on the move. He has two ways of getting around and loves his new found freedom. If you lay him down on his back within in a few moments he is across the room. He arches his back, tipping his head back to see where he is going and pushing off with his feet. He also is pushing himself backwards in his walker that we just retrieved from the garage. Mama's in for it now!!

Showing off his pushing skills

A few weeks ago we bunked the boys bed, we are preparing to put Lucas in the same room. By doing this Evan has found a new independence, the ladder! He now thinks he can take this ladder anywhere in the house and get anything he wants. The other day he was coming up the stairs with his ladder in hand. I asked him what he was doing. He said proudly "Mom I got my vitamins all by myself". Of course I started lecturing him on what would happen if the ladder fell over while he was on it and that the ladder is suppose to stay on his bed. I also thought to myself, wow those vitamins have a child proof cap....Later while laying in bed I just had to smile when I remembered the smile on his face when we told me what he could do by himself and wished that I wasn't such a paranoid Mom.
